1. GILA RIVER ARENA - Glendale City Council and the Coyotes are off to the courts. It's probably going to get messy. However, there is still a possibility that the team plays in Glendale this season. The Coyotes already are pursuing an injunction and a temporary restraining order that would potentially allow them to continue using the facility for one more season. Also, council and the Coyotes could work on a new lease agreement, but that would be a complete 360 from the current bitterness that's lingering at this time.
2. TALKING STICK RESORT ARENA - More of a longshot, but the Phoenix Suns of the NBA are attempting to update their current arena or build a new one. Built in 1992, Talking Stick seems relatively young to NHL standards but is actually one of the NBA's oldest buildings. The Coyotes could make a deal that allows the two franchises to share a new building in Scottsdale. In the meantime, the Coyotes can cram into the Talking Stick Resort Arena like they did in the early years of the franchise's conception.
3. QUEBEC CITY? LAS VEGAS? - No chance for either of these clubs. Gary Bettman is looking at expansion and these cities seem willing to pony up the fees to do so. I do not see the Coyotes moving to either. Also, the arena in Las Vegas isn't open until 2016.
4. SEATTLE? - This is the most likely "Plan B" for the Coyotes if they have to move. In Late April, banker Ray Bartoszek filed a zoning code interpretation request to potentially develop a new arena in the suburb of Tukwila. In 2013, he was at the helm of a group that came close to buying the Coyotes. An article about him is here: http://blog.seattlepi.com/sonics/2015/04/27/investors-make-first-move-for-hockeybasketball-arena-in-seattle-suburb-of-tukwila/
The reason Bartoszek is on track to have his plan succeed compared to Chris Hansen, the other Seattle suitor who couldn't buy the Sacramento Kings, is all private funding. Bartoszek claims he can privately fund the entire arena project.
I wonder if the NHL, desperate but wanting to still look at the long-term picture, would allow the team to move to Seattle's KeyArena for a couple of seasons before the new arena is built. This was also part of Bartoszek's plan.
5. OTHERS? - There are other options like Kansas City and Portland, but I'm not entirely in belief that they are serious suitors for an NHL club at this time. Kansas City is the most likely because of their NHL ready arena.
At this point, I'd suggest the team is either staying in Glendale, moving to Phoenix temporarily, moving to Seattle or moving to Kansas City for the upcoming season.
